This has led to the development of solutions designed for a variety of navigation needs, all capable of withstanding continuous and intensive use and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.

CHOICE OF AN ANCHOR WINDLASS
The parameters to consider when choosing an anchor windlass are the length of the boat and the total weight of the mooring. The size of the windlass is determined based on the length of the boat, while the total weight of the mooring (plus chain) is used to calculate the required power.
It's important to define the meaning of the two load values listed in the windlass specifications: maximum instantaneous pull, which represents the peak load the winch can withstand for a limited period of time, usually reached when the anchor must be freed from the seabed, and lifting load, which represents the load the winch can withstand with a certain continuity.Multiplying the total weight of the mooring by a factor of 4 determines the maximum instantaneous working load required for the selected windlass, thus defining its power.

HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL WINDLASS?
The choice of one model or the other depends primarily on the available space above and below deck. Horizontal windlasses have a horizontal gypsy rotation axis and are typically located entirely above deck. They are therefore bulkier than a vertical-axis winch, which consists of two parts: one above deck, containing the gypsy, and the other containing the gearmotor, located below deck. The advantage of the latter model is its smaller above-deck footprint and greater chain grip, as the gypsy works on more links simultaneously compared to a horizontal model.
