SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces with old antifouling
Good conditions: remove contaminants and any vegetation by high-pressure washing with fresh water. Wet sand with 120-180 grit paper. If the old antifouling is unknown, apply a coat of Ticoprene type sealer. Poor conditions: remove contaminants, any vegetation and loose material by high-pressure washing with fresh water. Wet sand with 80-120 grit paper or lightly sand, taking care not to damage the cycle underneath the old antifouling. Apply a coat of ADHERPOX or TICOPRENE primer over the entire treated area before applying the antifouling.
New or refurbished surfaces
Fiberglass: Degrease the surface to be treated with solvent or a suitable detergent. Pressure wash with fresh water and remove all traces of oil and grease. All surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free of contaminants. Sand with sandpaper no. P180 – P220 and prime the treated surface. Before applying the products, blow with clean, dry air to remove any sanding residue and dirt.
Steel: Pressure wash with fresh water and remove all traces of oil and grease (if necessary, wash with a specific solvent). All surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free of contaminants. Perform a sandblasting treatment to grade Sa 2½ or, after consulting our technicians, mechanical cleaning to grade St 3. Cover the treated metal with the primer before it shows signs of oxidation. Before applying the products, blow with clean, dry air to remove any sanding residue and dirt.
Aluminum: Clean the surface as for steel. Sand with coarse-grained discs P36 -40. The metal must be silver-colored, completely free from oxidation residues and covered with the appropriate primer on the same day as the preparation described above. Be careful not to polish the surface without, however, overdoing the engraving. Before applying the products, blow with clean, dry air to remove any sanding residues and dirt.
New wood: the humidity level of the substrate must not exceed 18%. All surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free from contaminants. Sand with paper no. P80 - P120. Before applying the products, blow with clean, dry air to remove any sanding residues and dirt.
Lead: Pressure wash with fresh water and remove any traces of oil and grease (if necessary, wash with a specific solvent). All surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free from contaminants. Sand with coarse-grained discs (mechanical cleaning) the surface layer of the metal must be renewed completely and uniformly, removing any oxidation residue and covered with the primer provided on the same day of preparation. Be careful not to overdo the engraving. Before applying the products provided, blow with clean and dry air to remove any sanding residue and dirt.
